Proposal for an APA Journal

Robert Audi (Notre Dame) has, in the May 2012 issue of the APA Proceedings (pp.105-7), proposed that the APA establish its own philosophy journal. In favor of the proposal, Audi cites the paucity of other respected philosophy journals, the bearing on tenure and promotion, and the advantages (financial and otherwise) for the APA.

Anonymous – Given the comments in the APA proceedings, I think the argument was at least in part that, if universities are looking to quantity in publications in making department-to-department comparisons, then “paucity” needs to be judged relative to other fields. I’m not sure if that changes your assessment or not, and I’m not informed enough about other fields to know whether it should. It was, however, something I hadn’t thought about before.
